Biology
The biology of this weevil is very similar to that of Neochetina
eichhorniae. They often occur together and they can be
difficult to separate the two species. Adults can be separated
with some practice. DeLoach and Cordo (1976a, 1976b) studied
the life cycle in Argentina.
History
Neochetina bruchi was released into the United
States in 1972 along with N. eichhorniae and Sameodes
albiguttalis (Perkins 1973).
Status
Neochetina bruchi was released and established in
the U. S. in Florida.
Management
Collecting and relocation of this weevil is very similar
to Neochetina eichhorniae.
Weeds Affected
Neochetina bruchi feeds on water hyacinth.
